Role Description The Assistant Controller is a full-time, hybrid role based in Corona, CA, with flexibility for some work from home. This role supports the Controller in managing day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, month-end and year-end close processes, and account reconciliations. The Assistant Controller helps prepare financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable accounting standards and company policies. Responsibilities include overseeing accounts payable and receivable activities, monitoring job cost accounting and project-related financial data, and assisting with cash management and forecasting. The role also supports budgeting, variance analysis, internal controls, audits, and process improvements, while partnering with operational teams to provide financial insights that support decision-making.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles, including GAAP, general ledger accounting, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with full-cycle accounting processes such as month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
- Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems (experience in construction or job cost accounting software is a plus) and advanced skills in Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
- Background in accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and cash management, preferably in a construction or mechanical contracting environment.
- Demonstrated ability to implement and maintain internal controls, support audits, and improve accounting processes and workflows.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy under deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with finance, project management, and operations teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or progress toward certification is preferred but not required.
- Relevant experience in an Assistant Controller, Senior Accountant, or similar role, ideally within construction, engineering, or mechanical services.
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment based in Corona, CA, with a high level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to ethical financial practices.
