Position Summary
The Banquet Houseman is responsible for the set-up, maintenance, and breakdown of all banquet and meeting rooms according to event orders. This position plays a key role in ensuring all functions are executed smoothly and professionally, maintaining Marriott’s high standards of service and presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up banquet and meeting rooms according to event specifications — including furniture arrangement, linens, décor, and audiovisual equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all banquet spaces, storage areas, and service corridors throughout the shift.
- Assist banquet servers and supervisors during events with additional setups, water service, and replenishment needs.
- Break down and reset banquet rooms promptly after events, returning all items to their proper storage locations.
- Handle, transport, and store equipment and supplies safely; report any damages or maintenance needs immediately.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, and property standards.
- Maintain a professional appearance and courteous attitude when interacting with guests and fellow associates.
- Support other hotel departments as needed to ensure smooth event operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in banquets, events, or hospitality is an advantage but not required.
- Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 50 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- Flexible schedule — must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, bending, and pushing/pulling of heavy items.
- Work may occur in varying temperatures and environments, both indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions clearly and efficiently.
Working Relationships
- Reports directly to the Banquet Manager or Supervisor.
- Works closely with banquet servers, kitchen staff, event planners, and housekeeping to ensure event success.
