Courtyard by Marriott Kansas City at Briarcliff is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering team. This position is responsible for maintaining the hotel's physical property, equipment, and grounds to ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for our guests and associates. The Maintenance Engineer performs preventative maintenance, responds to guest maintenance requests, and assists with repairs throughout the hotel while maintaining Marriott brand standards.
The Maintenance Engineer reports directly to the Assistant General Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance throughout the hotel in accordance with company and Marriott standards.
- Perform general repairs and maintenance of guest rooms, public spaces, meeting rooms, offices, and exterior areas.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and building systems.
- Repair drywall, flooring, ceilings, doors, locks, windows, furniture, fixtures, and equipment as needed.
- Conduct regular inspections of hotel facilities and identify maintenance needs before they become larger issues.
- Complete weatherproofing, caulking, painting, and other preventative building maintenance projects.
- Maintain swimming pool, parking lot, sidewalks, landscaping, lighting, and exterior grounds as assigned.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance requests while providing outstanding guest service.
- Maintain preventative maintenance records, work orders, equipment logs, and inventory documentation.
- Organize and maintain engineering shop, tools, maintenance supplies, and parts inventory.
- Assist with receiving, storing, and tracking maintenance materials and equipment.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained in safe operating condition.
- Follow all OSHA regulations, safety procedures, and hotel security policies.
- Properly handle and store chemicals, equipment, and hazardous materials.
- Assist with emergency situations including power outages, severe weather, plumbing emergencies, fire alarms, and other facility-related incidents.
- Be available for emergency call-outs during off-duty hours when necessary.
- Assist with snow removal, ice treatment, and other seasonal property maintenance.
- Maintain professional appearance and represent the hotel in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Special Requirements
- Prompt and regular attendance is essential. The hotel operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.
- Work schedules will vary based on business demands and may include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.
- Must be available to respond to emergency maintenance situations outside of scheduled working hours.
- Must maintain professional grooming and appearance standards.
- Review and approve electronic timecards each pay period to ensure payroll accuracy.
- Carry out all reasonable requests from supervisors and management while supporting other hotel departments as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of hotel, commercial, or facility maintenance experience preferred.
- General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of preventative maintenance programs.
- Ability to read blueprints, manuals, equipment specifications, and measuring devices is preferred.
- Basic computer skills for completing work orders and maintenance logs.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
- Must be eligible to obtain a Missouri Class E Driver License if operating the hotel shuttle is required.
- EPA Certification and HVAC certification are preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the associate is regularly required to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance.
- Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, stoop, crawl, climb ladders, and work at various heights.
- Operate power tools, hand tools, ladders, testing equipment, and maintenance machinery safely.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Perform repetitive hand and arm movements while completing repairs.
- Respond quickly to emergency maintenance situations throughout the property.
