What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Mentor position at CourtBloom Community Inc?
About CourtBloom
CourtBloom Community, Inc. is a New Hampshire nonprofit providing free youth programming, mentorship, and access to basic needs. We serve children and families through weekly community programs, shared meals with learning built in, and school-day visits. Franklin is our home site, where our programs started and where families have counted on us the longest.
About the role
As a Franklin Youth Mentor, you help run both weekend mornings at Bessie Rowell alongside the program lead. Your focus is the kids. Every child should feel welcome, stay engaged, and leave having had a good morning.
The best people in this role read the room. They notice the child sitting alone, the group losing focus, or the transition about to fall apart, and step in before anyone has to ask. You're there to make the program lead's job easier and every child's experience better. There's a learning curve, but the expectation is that you add value from your first session.
This is CourtBloom's only weekend role, so it suits someone who wants a steady commitment outside the work week. If you also have weekday flexibility, you can join our school-day visits at Paul Smith Elementary.
What you'll do
- Arrive before each session to help set up equipment and activity stations.
- Greet kids and families by name and help new families get settled.
- Lead or support small groups during warm-ups, games and activities.
- Keep groups moving smoothly between activities with little downtime.
- Watch for kids who are struggling, left out or disengaged, and step in to help.
- Support the shared-meal learning time, including reading, word of the day and group discussion.
- Help with cleanup and share quick notes with the program lead about how the session went.
- Share ideas for making the Franklin program better.
What we expect
- Delivery: show up prepared and make every session better for the kids.
- Reliability: arrive on time for every scheduled session, ready to work.
- One month's notice: tell us about any schedule change at least one month in advance so we can arrange coverage.
- Growth: we're looking for people who plan to grow with CourtBloom, because we grow with you. As our programs expand, so do responsibility, leadership opportunities, and your voice in how we run.
