Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with case preparation by organizing and maintaining legal documents, pleadings, discovery materials, and correspondence using document management systems such as iManage or LexisNexis.
- Conduct thorough legal research across various practice areas including landlord-tenant law, personal injury law, workers' compensation law, family law, and securities law to support case strategies.
- Draft and proofread legal documents such as pleadings, motions, subpoenas, contracts, and discovery requests with precision and clarity.
- Manage case files meticulously, ensuring all documents are properly filed electronically and physically in accordance with court rules and firm policies.
- Coordinate and schedule depositions, court appearances, client meetings, and other key events while maintaining effective communication with clients and external parties.
- Perform detailed document review for relevance and privilege; assist in preparing exhibits and summaries for trial or settlement negotiations.
- Support attorneys in preparing for hearings or trials by organizing exhibits, witness lists, and other trial materials.
- Utilize legal research tools like Westlaw or LexisNexis to gather pertinent case law, statutes, regulations, and legal precedents.
- Maintain accurate data entry of case information into case management software such as PCLaw or other systems.
- Provide executive administrative support including managing calendars, drafting correspondence, handling phone inquiries with professionalism and courtesy.
- Assist in project management tasks related to ongoing litigation projects to ensure deadlines are met efficiently.
Skills
- Proven paralegal experience with a strong understanding of civil litigation processes from filing to trial preparation.
- Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw and LexisNexis; familiarity with legal databases like iManage is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Strong writing skills for drafting pleadings, motions, reports, and correspondence that are clear and persuasive.
- Detail-oriented approach to document review, proofreading, transcription, and data entry tasks.
- Knowledge of various practice areas including estate planning (nice-to-have), environmental law (nice-to-have), UCC law (Uniform Commercial Code), tribal law & regulations (nice-to-have), patent law (nice-to-have), immigration law (nice-to-have), landlord-tenant law (nice-to-have), family law (nice-to-have), securities law (nice-to-have), workers' compensation law (nice-to-have), personal injury law (nice-to-have).
- Experience with legal case management software such as PCLaw or similar systems; familiarity with document management systems like iManage is advantageous.
