What are the responsibilities and job description for the DELIVERY DRIVER - VAN position at Courier Express Inc.?
Courier Express is currently looking for individuals in the Springfield area who are reliable, responsible, and have excellent communication skills to be an integral part of our team and assist with our growth plans. Our ideal applicants will provide prompt, courteous and professional delivery/pickup service to multiple facilities throughout the Northeastern United States.
Here are the specifics about the position we currently have available:
- Up to $16.00 per hour, depending on your experience & availability.
- This is an On-Demand/Part-Time position with no guaranteed hours. Most of our part-time drivers will work between 10-30 hours per week. The potential to grow into a full-time position is very good.
- Deliveries are mostly Monday – Friday, between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. but can start earlier (2-3 a.m.) and go into the evening (8-9 p.m.) with shifts averaging 5-8 hours each day. There may also be weekend work available.
- Some days might include completing an entire route with up to 50 stops, while others could be simple freight pick up /delivery (aka “A to B”). Some deliveries are "no-touch" and could be loaded/unloaded with a forklift, while others will require "white-glove handling."
REQUIREMENTS
- Must report to our facility in Springfield, or to one of our customers’ locations
- Must have clear background and have clean driving record
- Drug screening, including testing for marijuana: ALL tested substances must come back NEGATIVE (Federal/DOT requirement)
- Delivery or professional cargo van driving experience preferred
- Have reliable transportation for commuting and be on time when scheduled
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate record keeping
- Have operational knowledge of smart devices: phones, tablets, GPS, Bluetooth
- Be comfortable driving/delivering in all settings – rural to urban/downtown areas, including Boston & New York
- Physically be able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move/push/pull/lift items (sometimes of large and irregularly shaped) weighing up to 70 lbs., (proper equipment is provided for assistance)
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs – some time packages can be large and/or irregularly shaped (proper equipment is provided for assistance)
- Must meet all requirements of our insurance provider
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Load and unload cargo using appropriate equipment, such as pallet jacks & hand trucks
- Safely operating a company van and maneuvering into loading or unloading positions while completing deliveries to residential and commercial areas
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations while driving
- Following detailed instructions, assigned routes and schedules for efficient delivery
- Keeping an accurate ELD logbook: documenting and logging work hours, rest periods, mileage and retain fuel/toll receipts
- Collecting and verifying delivery instructions
- Keeping Dispatch updated with your availability each day
