Substitute Paraeducator Requirements
Paraeducator Employment Requirements
All employed substitute paraeducators must be 1)at least eighteen years of age and 2) hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. In addition, a paraeducator 3) must meet one of the following:
- Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment (PARA TEST) (TESTING: https://www.pdenroller.org/nwesd/catalog/event/195958)
OR
- Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
OR
- Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university

Substitute Para-educator Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent. (we will need a copy of your unofficial or official HS/ GED transcripts or copy of your actual HS Diploma)
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Appropriate knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation; proficient in reading and math and able to assist students in these areas.
- Ability to work independently in a public and often distracting environment.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency in use of computers for word processing, spreadsheet, and data management.
- Awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students.
- A helpful, calm, friendly, and polite manner when interacting with students, parents and school staff;
- Demonstrated ability to make reasoned decisions and set appropriate expectations for individual students.
- Willingness to participate in activities and responsibilities assigned by classroom teachers.
- Appropriate discretion concerning students, staff, and confidential or privileged information, in accordance with state and federal laws and district policies.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work well with others, and especially with students.
Other Education Requirements (to be hired):
- Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service Para Pro Assessment; or
- Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or
- Have earned seventy-two quarter credits or forty-eight semester credits at the one hundred level or higher at an accredited college or university
