Job Summary
The PRN Court Clerk is responsible to attend and document Family and Civil Court hearings and assist with the timely filing of all civil litigation filed in the York County Prothonotary’s Office. The PRN Court Clerk position requires indexing and filing of legal documents, recording court outcomes, audit files for accuracy and ensure consistent records are always kept.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Index and file legal documents, audit files for accuracy and ensure consistent records are always kept for all civil litigation pertaining to the York County Court of Common Pleas to include, but not limited to, the following case categories: appeals, civil suits, conciliation, custody, divorce, judgments, mental health, older adult, tax liens, tax upset filing and writs.
- Familiarity with the Civil Court Case Management System CountySuite and York County Court of Common Pleas Family and Civil Court procedure.
- Attend and document Family and Civil Court hearings to include announcing and swearing in the Jury panel, administers oaths to witnesses, receive, document, and take into custody exhibits that are admitted in court and record outcome of the trial.
- Function as procedural and operational liaison, in the courtroom, between Judges, attorneys and case participants.
- Audit files for accuracy and ensure consistent records are always kept.
- Process records requests for files stored in Archives.
- Correspond with various Court Offices to include Sheriff’s Office, Judges, judicial assistants, law clerks and others.
- Possess the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Other reasonable duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Requirements are representative of minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the ability or aptitude to perform each duty proficiently, and comply with York County policies and procedures, as outlined in the York County Employee Handbook.
Essential Requirements
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Familiarity with the operation, daily maintenance, and troubleshooting of office equipment such as: personal computers, laser printers, scanner, copy and fax machines and multi-line telephones.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Whether in person or by telephone, required to interact with the public, other departments, Judges, court offices, and co-workers in a congenial, efficient, and responsible manner.
- Must possess good time management skills.
- Must have the ability to think through, reason, and utilize common sense in working with diverse individuals and can exercise mature judgment.
- Ability to understand, apply and follow PA Rules of Civil Court Procedure, York County Local Rules, the York County Policy Manual and Prothonotary Office Policy.
