Position Summary
This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing Wilkin County roads, bridges, related structures and highway maintenance equipment to provide for the safety and adequate travel and accessibility for the public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains and repairs vehicles, equipment and tools
- Conducts daily vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Performs minor repairs and maintains equipment and vehicles.
- Performs shop safety inspections and conducts shop inventory.
- Ensures compliance with DOT safety regulations.

Operates equipment including, but not limited to, trucks, trailers, loaders, snow removal equipment, sanding equipment, backhoes, forklifts, road graders, skid steer loaders, mowers, tractors, welders and others to maintain and repair county roads, ditches, bridges and land.
- Maintains records of origin, destination of materials and time of delivery.
- Performs blading on county roads; levels and spreads gravel.
- Removes and installs culverts.
- Responds to natural disasters, highway hazards and highway emergencies.
- Clears road debris, such as rocks, deer, and trees.
- Operates snow plows and other heavy equipment to remove snow, ice and storm debris from County roadways and applies ice control materials.
- Sets up locates for utilities.
- Shoulders, patches, gravels and repairs roads.

Performs related duties
- Performs demolition and removal of tax forfeited properties.
- Monitors road conditions, reports damage and hazards to supervisor.
- Attends continuing education and training opportunities.
- Responds to questions or concerns of the general public.
- Other duties as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Requirements:
- Valid MN Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement.
- Ability to respond to call for service outside of normal work hours.
- Knowledge of local and state laws and regulations regarding the operation of equipment, particularly those pertaining to their operation on public streets.
- Knowledge and skill in proper snow and ice removal techniques.
- Skill in operating heavy equipment and vehicles used in roadway maintenance and snow/ice removal.
- Knowledge of state and federal OSHA standards and requirements.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Must be able to perform moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials (up to 60 pounds). Environmental conditions include heat, cold, wetness, toxic chemicals, insect borne illnesses, traffic, and other occupational hazards associated with road construction and maintenance. Subject to random drug testing program
