What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bridgetender - Part time - Road and Bridge position at County of Volusia?
NOTE: This position requires the ability to work from midnight to 8:00 am with rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

- Maintains a lookout for boats and operates bridge in response to signals, in accordance with established rules and regulations.
- Inspects mechanical and electrical devices on the bridge to see that they are in working order.
- Summons assistance in case mechanical repairs are necessary.
- Turns bridge lights on and off at proper times and sees that burned out lights and fuses are replaced.
- Performs custodial work about the bridge such as sweeping walks.
- Maintains records of bridge openings and activities.
- May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
- Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Completion of the 8th grade. The preferred candidate will have bridge tending experience.
- Ability to think quickly and clearly in an emergency.
- Ability to keep simple records and make reports of work.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions.
- Ability to interact effectively with others.
- Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demands: Ability to lift, pull and push up to 15 lbs. Ability to see, hear, pull, push, grasp, handle, climb. Visual acuity (peripheral vision, depth perception) to operate motorized vehicles.
Environmental Demands: Inside work. Exposure to fumes, odors.
Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend operational instructions, safety instructions, memos, procedures and policies. Ability to write simple sentences relaying information.
