The Tehama County Facilities Maintenance Department maintains County facilities with care and attention. The department provides building maintenance, repairs and custodial services to County facilities. Facilities Maintenance anticipates needs, provides effective solutions, maintains communication and performs maintenance work in a timely manner.
About the Position: Under the direction of the Lead Custodian and the Facilities Maintenance & Improvement Director, performs routine custodial duties in the maintenance of County buildings.
- Maintains County buildings in accordance with established standards of cleanliness and order.
- Performs routine custodial duties, including but not limited to cleaning and disinfecting offices and restrooms; dusting and waxing fixtures and/or furniture; sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing and/or buffing floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpets; sweeping walks and stairs; washing walls and windows; cleaning air vents and light fixtures; disposing of waste and soiled items, etc.
Required Knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, equipment and procedures used in janitorial work.
- The use and basic maintenance of custodial equipment.
- MSDS sheets, department policies, and cleaning standards.
Required Ability to:
- Safely operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment as necessary in the performance of daily activities.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions or directions.
- Maintain records related to the work.
- Work independently and as a team member.

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
The department is recruiting for one (1) vacancy.
In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Custodian, as well as subsequent vacancies, which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
