St. Francois County offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced IT professional to lead and modernize the County’s technology operations. The IT Director serves as a key member of County leadership and is responsible for planning, establishing, and administering all information technology policies and objectives. This position reports directly to the County Commissioners and works closely with department directors and elected officials to advance County objectives through the effective and secure use of technology.

The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking, hands-on leader who is passionate about innovation, cybersecurity, and public service. This position provides a unique opportunity to shape the County’s IT strategy, strengthen infrastructure, and enhance efficiency across multiple departments that serve the citizens of St. Francois County.

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install and configure hardware and software components to ensure usability.
  • Oversee all IT initiatives including security, infrastructure, and applications in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Establish IT policies and systems to support implementation of strategies set by Commissioners and Elected Officials.
  • Analyze business requirements of all departments to determine technology needs and deliver timely solutions.
  • Continuously assess new technologies and review the performance of existing systems to ensure the County remains on the leading edge of innovation.
  • Identify and resolve problematic areas, implementing strategic solutions to ensure system reliability.
  • Provide end-user support and serve as the first point of contact for technical issues.
  • Oversee procurement of efficient and cost-effective technology equipment and software while working within budget guidelines.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with outside vendors and resources.
  • Supervise and develop a team of 2–4 IT professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and data protection best practices.
  • Complete Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) training as required.
  • Handle other special projects and requests as assigned.
  • Limited on-call availability is required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible work experience in IT, or a combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates successful performance in a similar role.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a leadership or management role within an IT environment.
  • Proficiency across multiple technology platforms and systems.
  • Proven experience in the analysis, implementation, and evaluation of IT systems and infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of computer systems (hardware/software), network administration, and network installation.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into practical solutions.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • High degree of integrity and professionalism, including handling of sensitive or confidential information.
  • Experience in municipal or county government is desirable but not required.
  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, and lift equipment as needed.
