POSITION: Detective
REPORTS TO: Chief Detective/District Attorney
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Detective works directly with the District Attorney and assists other County Detectives in regards to investigations, criminal complaints, evidence, and record checking.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to education and experience that provides the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- Certified under Act 177 - Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission
- Computer literacy: NCIC/CLEAN; J-Net; IN-SYNC; Microsoft Word; internet/email
- Valid Operator License
- Must be 21
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess a general knowledge of the American Legal System and legal terms, should possess a basic knowledge of the Somerset County criminal legal procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
All employees must maintain strict confidentiality of all aspects of their duties, as any information in the District Attorney’s Office is not open to the public.
- Investigate all private criminal complaints received by the District Courts or by residents reporting directly to the Office of the District Attorney
- Receive and inventory all evidence
- Conduct Record Checks
- Manage Warrant List
- Extradition oversight
- Investigations under the Pennsylvania Crimes Code
- All other duties as assigned
