The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Election Worker - Office Specialists to assist in the upcoming November 8, 2022 Statewide General Election. The Elections Division is a fast-paced environment; this is an excellent opportunity to work with a group of dynamic, well-organized, and highly efficient individuals committed to the democratic process.
We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for temporary, full-time positions to be hired into one of the following areas:
Vote Center Specialist
- Update and maintain documentation related to personnel recruitment, training, scheduling and vote center locations. Schedule and prepare for unit activities including:
- Representative interviews
- Representative onboarding and training sessions
- Site Visits
- Coordinate Training for Vote Center Leads in partnership with trainers
- Support Vote Center operations through:
- Receiving time sheets
- Monitoring computer systems
- Organizing post-election feedback and statistic collection
- May assist with other unit activities as time permits
Vote Center Tech Support
- Help to test equipment that will be used at Vote Centers
- Visit Vote Centers and test connections
- Troubleshoot equipment issues in the field
Onboarding and Fiscal Support
- Fiscal duties will include assisting with onboarding employees, scheduling, organization of filing and maintaining various documents, including those related to personnel support functions.
- Staff will assist with payroll inquiries and timecards from employees, supervisors, and managers. Timecards will be verified for accuracy including overtime, leave requests, and holiday pay.
The hourly wage for these positions starts at: $26.77.
The Election Worker – Office Specialist is classified as an Office Specialist.
NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment. Overtime is expected.
IMPORTANT: The County of San Mateo follows state and local best-practice guidelines in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure safety of the public and staff. Such measures may include but are not limited to regular sanitization of equipment with provided supplies, class size limits, wearing masks inside the training center, enforcing social distancing, facility ventilation, and providing staff with personal protective equipment, such as gloves, hand sanitizer, face masks, and sneeze guards.Ideal Vote Center Tech Support candidates will have computer experience and have attention to detail. Vote Center Specialist candidates will have strong organizational abilities, computer proficiency, attention to detail, and previous knowledge of vote center procedures and the live vote center application. Onboarding and Fiscal Support candidates will be able to perform basic math calculations and have a strong attention to detail.
Critical skills for all Election Worker – Office Specialist positions include the ability to prioritize work, learn new jobs tasks quickly, and understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Typical office hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. However, these positions may require working overtime, including long hours, weekends, evenings, and holidays. (Any authorized time worked more than 40 hours in the workweek shall be considered overtime and shall be compensable at the rate of one and one-half (1-1/2) times the overtime worked.
Generally, extra-help employees who work on a holiday shall be compensated for such time worked at the rate of one and one-half (1 1/2) times the straight-time rate as provided in the Overtime Section of this MOU for their work group).
The selected individuals must be available for the entire employment period until the completion of their assignment.
