THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY LIBRARY IS NOW HIRING FOR POSITION OF

LIBRARY TECHNICIAN II

Interviews will take place the week of FEBRUARY 9th, 2026.

The department will reach out to candidates to invite them to participate in an interview.

Future Salary Increases:

** June 2026 – 4.10% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board 0.60% Market Adjustment)

** June 2027 – 3.60% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the- Board 0.60% Market Adjustment)


* Employees in this job classification assigned to a Rural Library location may be eligible for a 5% premium.*

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will provide courteous, high quality service to members of the public by personally responding to requests or making appropriate referral.

HIRING TIMELINE AND DATES

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.

  • Interviews, Job Offers and Background Process will be ongoing. (Current County employees may be exempt from the background process.)
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Two (2) years full-time library work experience at the level of a Library Technician I, or equivalent experience involving knowledge of general library practices or operations. Supervisory coursework/experience is highly desirable.

Note:
A Library Technology certificate or an associate's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in Library Science is desirable.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT


As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.

EVALUATION PROCESS

The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month eligible list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental application. If you are successful in the initial screening process, your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.
