EXAMPLES OF WORK:
  • Interviews clients and gathers social, financial, medical, and other relevant information from clients, relatives, and other sources.
  • Performs supportive social services for clients and maintains effective communication and professional rapport with clients and families.
  • Makes field visits, when required, to investigate and gather information necessary to assess client situations and determine appropriate services.
  • Assists clients and families in resolving problems and accessing available services or resources.
  • Organizes and conducts social, recreational, educational, and other program activities for individuals or groups.
  • Observes client behavior and reports unusual situations or conditions to supervisory staff.
  • Assists with agency projects, surveys, outreach efforts, and the collection of routine program data.
  • Maintains cooperative working relationships with community organizations, agencies, and service providers.
  • Maintains records, files, and related documentation and prepares reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Accompanies clients to agencies, institutions, or appointments, when appropriate.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
 
EDUCATION: Satisfactory completion of at least sixty (60) semester-hour credits at an accredited college or university.
NOTE: Applicants who do not meet the education requirement may substitute experience in a social service, health, or community agency, or in social work involving responsibility for gathering social information from clients, determining needs, and planning and/or implementing service plans, on a year-for-year basis, with thirty (30) semester-hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience.
 
LICENSE: Appointees will  be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
 
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of sociological and psychological principles, individual and group behavior, and community health and social service programs.
  • Knowledge of the objectives, practices, and functions of social service agencies.
  • Knowledge of recordkeeping and file maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and program objectives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, families, coworkers, community organizations, and the public.
  • Ability to gather, evaluate, and make sound assessments of factual and social information relating to individuals and families.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and informative reports and maintain records and files.
  • Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered acceptable
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs and safely navigate stairs.
 

RATE: $25.91 per hour, 35 hours per week
