Job Description:
Habitat for Humanity of Rockland County is seeking a dynamic, mission-driven Executive Director to lead our organization into its next chapter of growth and community impact. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with strong nonprofit management skills, a passion for affordable housing, and a commitment to serving others.
What You’ll Do:
Public Relations
- Serve as co-spokesperson for the organization alongside the Board President
- Promote the organization’s programs, activities, goals and accomplishments through various communication channels
- Develop and implement a comprehensive outreach and communications plan
- Maintain regular communication with community partners, including local organizations, nonprofits, foundations and civic groups
- Strengthen and expand relationships with housing and human services organizations
- Cultivate a strong, diverse, inclusive and highly engaged Board of Directors
- Provide timely, accurate information and support the Board and its committees
- Assist the President with meeting agenda development and participate in Board and committee meetings
Resource Development
- Lead fundraising alongside Board’s Fundraising Committee
- Research and apply for grants and funding opportunities
- Build a pipeline of land/property donations and in-kind materials
- Partner with the Treasurer and Finance Committee in developing the annual budgets
- Serve as liaison for annual financial audit
- Administration and Management
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop the long-range strategic plan
- Work closely with the Board President to align daily operations with organizational goals
- Submits weekly timesheets and maintain regular reporting to the Board
- Track and document Board members’ volunteer hours on a monthly/quarterly basis
- Set and execute financial and operational priorities in partnership with the Executive Committee
- Implement Board decisions and provide monthly progress updates
- Authorize expenditures in accordance with Board-approved guidelines
- Maintain official records and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Oversee all aspects of construction activities, ensuring projects are on time and within budget
- Develop and manage a comprehensive spreadsheet to track active projects, including key dates, deadlines and contacts
- Lead the Family Services Committee and coordinate family training and support sessions
- Serve as the primary liaison between Habitat for Humanity International and the local affiliate
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit or housing sector
- Strong communication, fundraising, and organizational skills
- A heart for service, community building, and volunteer engagement
- Experience working with a Board of Directors and managing budgets
The work is performed under the general supervision of a Habitat for Humanity of Rockland Board of Directors
Minimum Qualifications:
Ex:
- Demonstrated leadership in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and fundraising skills
- Experience in event planning and community engagement
- Strong organizational, project management and problem-solving skills
- Collaborative leadership style with experience working alongside volunteer boards
- Supervisory experience, including hiring, training and performance management
- Strategic thinker with a deep commitment to service, equity and inclusion
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (docs, Sheets, Drive) is a plus
Other Requirements and Information:
- Must be a resident of Rockland County
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass a background check
- Flexibility to attend occasional evening and weekend events or meetings
- Strong commitment to the mission and values of Habitat for Humanity
Salary and Benefits:
Salary and benefits are competitive with the public sector market including but not limited to the following:
- Salary: $50,000 annually, with the potential for increases tied to organizational revenue growth
- Schedule: 30-hour per week salaried position, with occasional evening and weekend work as needed
- Holidays: 11 paid federal holidays
- Paid Time Off: 10 vacation days annually
- Personal Days: 3 paid personal days per year, available after 90 days of employment
- Sick Leave: 5 paid sick days annually
- Work Environment: Hybrid schedule based out of our New City NY office
