ABOUT THE POSITION
The Riverside University Health System Center seeks candidates for a Stationary Engineer position with the Medical Center located in Moreno Valley.
Incumbents in this class are primarily assigned responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and repair of high-pressure steam boilers and auxiliary equipment, as well as other Central Plant equipment and controls. Incumbents in this class may also be assigned to operate, maintain, and repair a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment and systems throughout the facility, including heating, ventilating, and plumbing systems.
Ideal candidates will have experience working in a medical center's power plant, working with high-pressure boilers. They will have a solid understanding of basic maintenance duties and have experience taking readings from power plant equipment and responding accordingly.
Schedule:
First 3 months, Monday - Friday 7:00 am-3:00 pm. After first 3 months, rotating shifts:
swing 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm, graveyard 11:00 pm-7:00 am. Days off will vary.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Operates and maintains a steam boiler plant, including reading meters and gauges, operating electronic controls, performing preventive maintenance, and making emergency repairs as necessary.
- Operates, maintains and repairs feed water pumps and other auxiliaries and their electronic controls; adjusts fuel and air for efficient combustion and to meet regulatory requirements; operates propane secondary boiler fuel system.
- Regulates water flow; read meters and gauges for water level and steam pressure; performs chemical tests on water and operates chemical addition systems; maintains and repairs pipes, valves, air compressors, suction pumps, and their control systems.
- Operates building automation system, and in conjunction with Air Conditioning Mechanics operates, maintains and repairs heating and air conditioning controls and equipment, including fans, pumps, chillers, and heat exchangers and cooling towers.
- Performs repairs, tests and preventive maintenance on boilers, auxiliary equipment, electronic controls, electric motors, pneumatic controls, water treatment apparatus, and pumps.
- Operates and maintains a pneumatic tube system, with electronic, pneumatic and mechanical elements.
- Operates and maintains emergency generators, automatic transfer switches in electrical supply switches, and associated equipment.
- Keeps logs and other records of operations and maintenance performed.
- Responds to fire alarms and alarms announcing hazardous materials spills, infant abductions, and other events as assigned, and operates fire alarm system, fire sprinkler water booster pumps, and related control systems.
- Makes repairs and modifications on a variety of other equipment and facilities, including plumbing systems, electrical lines, dishwashers, steam cooking equipment, fans, doors, locks, and refrigerators.
- Uses arc and acetylene welding in repairing and fabricating metal parts; uses a variety of hand and power tools.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: High pressure steam boilers and auxiliary equipment and regulations regarding their operation; the operation of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and electrical equipment and systems.
Ability to: Understand and work from plans, drawings, and specifications; follow oral and written instructions; Detect malfunctions and make necessary repairs to steam boiler and auxiliary equipment; repair a variety of electrical and mechanical appliances and auxiliary equipment; repair and maintain heating and ventilating equipment; Keep basic records.
Other Requirements
License: Possession of a valid Limited Steam Engineers license issued by a California local government agency must be obtained at the time of hire. Candidates who possess out- of -state Steam Engineer license shall obtain a Limited Steam Engineer license issued by a California local government agency at the time of hire.

Pre-Employment
