About The Position
The County of Riverside's Department of Waste Resources is looking to fill one Crew Lead Worker vacancy, the incumbent will be reporting to Headquarters in Moreno Valley.
The Crew Lead Worker leads and directs County employees, volunteers, and participants in court-mandated work release programs in the performance of a variety of manual labor tasks supporting departmental operations. Responsibilities include construction and maintenance activities, irrigation system maintenance, painting, and basic plumbing and electrical repairs at locations throughout Riverside County. The incumbent provides instruction and oversight to work crews, ensures tasks are completed safely and efficiently, maintains accurate records, and prepares various reports, including court-required documentation related to attendance and participation. Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position follows a 4/10 schedule.
The Crew Lead Worker is a lead level classification and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents are assigned lead responsibilities over large work crews engaged in performing small construction and maintenance duties and labor intensive tasks such as cleaning up illegal dumping areas, cutting fire breaks, remodeling buildings, traffic direction at landfill sites, recycling activities at landfill sites and constructing drainage systems. These activities may require the operation of various tracked and/or wheeled motorized construction equipment requiring relatively simple forms of manipulation and coordination such as loaders, backhoe, mowers, and small dozers (up to and including a D-6 dozer).

The Department of Waste Resources serves the County's Traffic Control and Waste Recycling division needs by providing for efficient and effective landfilling of County non-hazardous waste, protecting the environment, and promoting recycling in order to ensure a safe and healthy community for current and future generations.
Examples Of Essential Duties
Education: Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test is required within six months of employment.
License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required at the time of application, the incumbent will be driving to and from different facility locations throughout Riverside County . A Class B California Driver's License must be obtained within three months of employment. A Class A California Driver's License may be required for some positions.
Experience: Three years in maintenance, construction, recycling, traffic direction, or other similar work which required at least occasional operation of construction equipment.
Knowledge of: The tools, materials, methods, and equipment commonly used in public works construction and maintenance; safety rules, operation, maintenance, capacities, and limitations of construction and maintenance equipment.
Ability to: Coordinate, lead and direct the work of others; perform a variety of maintenance and construction tasks; follow oral and written directions; prepare records, forms and documentation; prepare incident reports in a brief and concise manner describing material factors or evidence and events of the incidents; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Physical/Environmental Requirements: The Crew Lead Worker operates outdoors and is exposed to inclement weather, and other environmental conditions. The responsibilities require moving heavy materials such as paint buckets, oil buckets , power tools, and maintenance and construction materials, and will also require that the incumbent walk on uneven ground or wet surfaces with or without reasonable accommodation.
Other Requirements
This position has been designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required.

- Operate a three-axle dump truck or other sized truck-type equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public work facilities; operate dump truck or roll off truck to haul construction materials, recycled materials from landfill sites, supplies, and equipment; operate tank truck to spray water, oil and chemicals; may operate low-bed or trucks with trailers in hauling equipment or materials.
