GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
- Under general supervision, performs specialized clerical work registering voters and maintaining voter registration records in accordance with state, federal and local election laws, and regulations.
- Work includes typing, filing and recordkeeping and frequent public contact.
- Applicants must be able to understand routine policies and procedures.
- At times independent judgement will be required to determine how best to serve the public in accordance with routine policies, procedures, and Election Laws.
- Applicants must be courteous and able to maintain an impartial attitude while performing duties and responsibilities.
- Must be able to remain calm and reply tactfully when responding to difficult individuals.
- This position reports to the Director of Elections.
- Answers telephone, greets the public, answers questions, and makes referrals to appropriate personnel or agencies.
- Responds in person, in writing, by telephone, and email to inquiries regarding voting procedures and election law requirements.
- Provides information to the public, government officials, elected officials, candidates, political party representatives, etc., as requested.
- Must be able to use Microsoft Office Applications and be willing to become proficient in operating the North Carolina Board of Elections Computer Systems.
- Register voters in person, maintain and updates voter registration records, including updates received from the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle and other government agencies.
- Assist with clerical tasks to perform voter list maintenance and updates to voter records as authorized by the Director of Elections and the NC State Board of Elections.
- Assist with the preparation, delivery, and verification of Absentee by Mail voting requests.
- Assist with set-up and operation of the Countys Early Voting site.
- Assist with the logic and accuracy testing of voting equipment.
- Assemble election day supplies needed by each Precinct to operate efficiently on election Day.
- Assist with the pre-deployment and retrieval of voting equipment.
- Must be able to exert, lift, pull, push, or carry up to 30 pounds.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods.
- Must be available to work extended hours, nights, and weekends around elections.
- Must be able to attend training sessions and conferences overnight.
- Graduation from high school or GED.
- 2 years of clerical experience, with experience in public contact and data entry, and the ability to learn specialized software and elections laws; or a two-year Associates Degree in a business related field,
- or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
- Valid NC Drivers License
- NC Registered Voter
- Consent to a background check as requested by the NC State Board of Elections
- Must undergo a pre-employment drug test
