The award-winning John Wayne Airport, Orange County (JWA) has been a major cornerstone of Orange County for more than 100 years. Located in beautiful Southern California, we currently serve approximately 11.7 million annual passengers. The County of Orange owns and operates John Wayne Airport, serving more than three million people within 34 cities and unincorporated areas of Orange County and beyond.   


As a medium hub airport, we have commercial flights to more than 40 nonstop destinations in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Eleven commercial airlines and two air cargo airlines fly out of the Airport. It is home to nearly 500 general aviation (private, non-commercial) aircraft, representing 60% of total operations, and includes two full-service fixed base operators and two limited use general aviation operators.

COMMERCIAL AND REVENUE DEVELOPMENT DIVISION 
John Wayne Airport (JWA) Commercial and Revenue Development Division (CRD) is responsible for strategic planning, implementation, operation, and monitoring of revenue-generating business activities on Airport property. The division is responsible for all commercial real property contracts involving John Wayne Airport and purchasing all necessary equipment and services that support the organization in running efficiently. The CRD Division also evaluates and assesses the effectiveness of business partner relationships to ensure high customer service and operations. To support these functions, the division is comprised of Asset Management, Procurement of Airport Real Estate Leases, Commercial/Leasing Revenue Production, Marketing/Customer Service Programs & Tenant Development. 

THE OPPORTUNITY
This internship is an in-person internship and is assigned to the Commercial and Revenue Development Division at JWA. The incumbent will assist the CRD division and support Real Property Agents in real estate needs, research, and compiling information. 

INTERN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
Intern duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following projects:

  • Assist within the Real Estate team on rent adjustments, CPI calculations, security deposit adjustments and notices, security deposit processing, performance bond processing, drafting notices or letters of correspondence, updating lease files, inspections of leased premises, and following up on delinquent accounts 
  • Provide support with lease compliance for the Real Estate team, such as updating files and folders, updating and verifying Visual Lease, Lease agreement and License formatting and review, conduct tenant inspections, and verification of lease space 
  • Conduct research and compile material and data on various real estate Request for Proposals, new Leases, or Agreements 
  • Contact peer airports for information and conduct airport surveys for data and analysis
  • Assist with updating OCAIR Website to allow tenants to submit new contact information more efficiently 
  • Sit in on Project meetings to assist Real Estate team on following up with projects and tenants 
Please note this is an in-person internship. Interns will not be able to perform the above duties remotely/virtually.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS 
Applicants must currently be enrolled in an associate/bachelor's degree program in an accredited college/university majoring in Political Science, Real Estate, or Public Administration and have completed at least two years of academic course work. 

Minimum GPA: 3.2

Students who have graduated within the last 6 months and obtained a bachelor's degree in one of the fields of study above are eligible to apply.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Note-taking skills 
  • Ability to perform research 
  • Ability to understand and perform basic mathematical computations 
  • Ability to type effectively 
  • Strong organization, problem solving, and analytical skills 
  • Ability to work on team projects and handle several assignments simultaneously 
  • Background in real estate 
TIME COMMITMENT
Immediate placement is available. Interns must be able to commit to 20-30 hours per week Monday through Fridays for a minimum of 6 months. This internship will last for 12 months.
