GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to enforce all local, federal, and state laws relating to the public’s safety and welfare in the County. Identify, collect, and preserve evidence from crime scene investigations, attend autopsies, and participate in trials and hearings. The Technician is responsible for taking notes, photographing, searching and transporting evidence to processing laboratories.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Record submitted evidence.
- Clear and properly dispose of evidence after cases clear.
- Collect evidence from crime scenes.
- Prepare documents and photographs of evidence.
- Process evidence in the processing laboratory.
- Prepare evidence for submission to external laboratories.
- Transport evidence to external laboratories for additional analysis.
- Maintain appropriate legal documentation for evidence collected.
- Prepare latent print comparisons and entries into AFIS.
- Appear and testify in court regarding the processing and analysis of evidence.
- Remain prepared for after-hours on-call duty.
- Prepare and return properties collected to the rightful owner.
- Attend and document autopsies.
- Sign evidence in and out to deputies for court while maintaining proper documentation.
- Attend mandatory training as required.

Additional duties include:
Develop and maintain Evidence Submission Manual for the department. Orders and maintain forensic supplies for the department. Fingerprint members of the public when needed. Assist other agencies with crime scene and evidence duties as requested.

Knowledge of South Carolina state laws and county ordinances;

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The educational requirement for this position is: Completion of high school/GED.
Education may be substituted for experience.
Related-experience required: 2 years.
Experience may be substituted for education.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
Certifications, licenses, professional designations, or other qualifications required for this position include:
- Valid SC Drivers License.

Certifications, licenses, professional designations, or other qualifications preferred for this position include:
- IAI Crime Scene Investigator certification.
