Communications Technician

Operates volt or ohm meters, signal tracers, and voltage regulators

Operates signal and audio signal generators

Tests electrical components, electronic circuitry, and microwave
communications equipment

Troubleshoots problems with wiring systems and electrical components

Adjusts equipment to manufacturer's specifications

Repairs wiring systems, electrical components, and FM radio transmitters
and receivers

Operates a motor vehicle

Tests base station and mobile radio communications equipment

Repairs mobile radio communications equipment and microprocessors

Installs electrical and computer board components, and mobile radio
communications equipment

Operates dual trace oscilloscopes

Troubleshoots problems with FM radio transmitters and receivers

Operates resistance and calibration potentiometers

Adjusts radio frequencies

Operates base station and mobile radio communications equipment

Establishes unit work procedures and priorities

Schedules maintenance or repair, and the use of equipment or
facilities

Interprets schematics

Verifies that quantity and type of item ordered matches invoice

Records the use of materials, equipment, parts or supplies

Writes technical, statistical or financial reports

Recommends the purchase of new and replacement materials,
equipment, parts and supplies

Distributes materials, equipment, parts or supplies

Consults with outside agencies or individuals about information
necessary for job assignments, and with vendors or contractors

Qualifications

• MUST LIVE IN NEW JERSEY.
• Completion of a vocational, technical or specialized training program in electronics and or radio communications.
• Two (2) years of experience in work involving installing, operating and repairing radio communications equipment.
• Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute one (1) year of additional experience as indicated.
• Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey. Technical certificate or associate degree in a relevant field is desired.
