What are the responsibilities and job description for the Van Driver position at County of Newaygo?
The Newaygo County Commission on Aging is seeking an individual who has a passion for helping others to fill the Van Driver position. The selected candidate will be responsible for transporting people on a door-to-door basis to locations within Newaygo County and healthcare appointments outside of Newaygo County. Being a van driver is a great way to give back to the community and make a difference.
- Performs pre-trip/post-trip inspections, prepares vehicle condition information, records passenger donations, and completes all other required paperwork including passenger information, accident, and incident reports.
- Operates transit vehicles in accordance with published schedules.
- Operates wheelchair lifts and assists in properly securing wheelchair passengers and chairs.
- Assists elderly and disabled passengers.
- Maintains order and behavior of transit passengers in a courteous and professional manner, and deals with customer inquiries, complaints and suggestions.
Education: High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
Experience: Must have a minimum of five (5) years of driving experience.
Other: Drivers must be physically able to move and assist wheelchair patrons on and off vehicles, and properly secure wheelchairs. in case of an accident or emergency, a driver may be required to remove passengers from the van, particularly if the passenger is disabled.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain Chauffeur License.

May work a flexible schedule varying between 4:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday.
