Nevada County Public Health is looking for a dynamic supervisor for our Health and Wellness Division! Our Program Manager directs the staff and work of multiple programs including Tobacco Use Prevention, Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention, Suicide Prevention, HIV Case Management, Oral Health, nutrition education and physical activity, and the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) programs. Health & Wellness programs focus on the prevention of chronic diseases through education and outreach, training, and direct services as well as through policy, systems and environmental change work. This is accomplished while working to engage various constituents including local youth, community-based organizations, and local leaders. The Public Health Program Manager works closely with internal and external partners to achieve department and organization goals while serving on the department’s Senior Leadership Team.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Typical duties of the Public Health Program Manager may include:

  • Provide strategic guidance to programs and staff.
  • Oversee a wide range of grants, budgets and contracts for assigned program areas.
  • Develop and review program policies and procedures. Interpret and apply provisions of law, rules, and regulations related to program areas.
  • Supervise a team of staff, including ensuring staff training and development, completing employee performance evaluations, and assigning and reviewing work.
  • Establish a supportive work environment and team culture where staff can thrive.
  • Demonstrate leadership in alignment with the department’s values and operating principles.
  • Interview and make recommendations for filling of positions.
  • Prepare, review and respond to communications sent by a wide variety of individuals, including state and local agencies and partner organizations.
  • Maintain strong collaborative relationships within the department and with internal and external county partners.
  • Provide professional and technical consultation on complex program matters, participating in program work on particularly complex, difficult, or sensitive projects.
  • Coordinate and support coalition work through meeting facilitation, relationship development and strategic guidance to staff.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION The ideal candidate will:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental health, a physical science, business, social services, sociology, psychology, or field related to one of the previously mentioned, and three years of experience in the program field at the advanced journey level, preferably in a community-based organization involving program development.
OR
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental health, a physical science, public health, health services administration, business or public administration, social sciences, psychology, counseling, social work or field related to one of the previously mentioned, or as required for any required licensure, certification, or registration, AND two years of experience in the program area at the advanced journey level, preferably in a community-based organization involving program development.
