SUMMARY OF POSITION

The County of Monterey Health Department’s Public Health Bureau has an opening for a full time Community Service Aide III (CSA III) in the California Children’s Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Program (MTP). The CSA III assists licensed staff in the delivery of public health services in health clinics, schools, homes, and other locations in the community.  They are expected to independently perform a full range of duties in both direct and indirect client care and support, provide Spanish/English translation and interpretation, and work collaboratively within a team to deliver services to clients and their families. In the CCS MTP, the CSA III works closely with physical and occupational therapists in the delivery of therapy services to children with special needs, as well as maintains the organization and hygiene of the therapy clinics and completes clerical duties necessary to support program operation.  The position requires Spanish/English translation/interpretation as needed for all activities.


The County of Monterey Health Department’s Public Health Bureau has an opening for a full time Community Service Aide III (CSA III) in the California Children’s Services (CCS) and the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention (CLPP) Programs. In CCS, the CSA III will perform data entry, monitor and process incoming faxes, provide Spanish/English translation and interpretation, conduct telephone calls with clients, and maintain the organization of client records. The CSA III will work with and support a team of CCS Public Health Nurses and CCS Case Workers, providing care coordination for Monterey County children with debilitating and chronic medical conditions such as congenital heart disease, cerebral palsy and spina bifida. In CLPPP, the CSA III will conduct home visits with the Public Health Nurse, providing Spanish/English translation and interpretation and assisting in the gathering of client information. This individual will assist the CLPP team with community outreach activities and phone calls to families. The CSA III will work with and support a team of CLPP nurses and educators to reduce lead poisoning among Monterey County children and pregnant women. The CSA III in both CCS and CLPPP will conduct clerical duties that are necessary to support program operations such as mailings, faxing, scanning, and receiving program phone calls. 


The Eligible List established by this recruitment process will be used to fill current and future vacancies, both regular and temporary, as they arise.


This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at the lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority in accordance with the Flexible Staffing Program and Guidelines.

  • May translate from English into other languages as necessary and if appropriately qualified.
  • Performs clerical duties such as typing, filing, answering phones, scheduling appointments; posts lab results to patient charts.  May issue and track service vouchers.
  • May conduct follow-up telephone or site visits to check on laboratory results, verify patient information, set client appointments, etc.
  • Sets up and dismantles clinics according to procedures.
  • Greets, registers and prepares patients for clinic procedures.
  • Interviews patients or clients to determine health needs and/or special program eligibility; obtains complete and accurate health and/or diet history and brief medical history and records same accurately and legibly.
  • Observes and reports to the nurse any unusual behavior, changes in behavior or other pertinent information.
  • May conduct follow-up telephone or site visits to check on laboratory results, verify patient information, set client appointments, etc.
  • Assists in developing and evaluating nutrition and health education materials.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

Will have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills and abilities:


Working Knowledge of:

  • Basic medical terminology.
  • Alpha/numeric filing procedures.


Skill and Ability to:

  • Write in English in order to record information.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to obtain and disseminate information to clients and the public.
  • Type in order to complete forms (familiarity with the keyboard).
  • Develop and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted through the course of work.

Any combination of training, education, and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment is qualifying. An example of the way these requirements might be acquired is:


Experience:
• Approximately one year of experience performing duties equivalent to those of a Community Service Aide II in Monterey County.

REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Successfully complete a background check to include fingerprinting.
  • Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license or the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during times of disaster and/or emergency, travel out of County to attend meetings.
  • Possess oral and written language proficiency.
