What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Deputy Drain Commissioner position at County of Midland, Michigan?
Under the supervision of the Drain Commissioner, serves as deputy for the Drain Office. Maintains the accounting and financial records for the Drain Office including payables, receivables, and interest disbursements. Answers questions from the public concerning drainage districts and assessment procedures, and provides information regarding assessments, unpaid balances, and interest due. Assists developers, residents, and others on drain problems to help resolve water or drainage issues related to county drains. Performs a variety of support tasks for the Drain Commissioner. Processes soil erosion and sedimentation control and drain permits. Represents the Drain Commissioner in his/her absence.
Associate’s Degree accounting, construction management, or related field and three years of progressively more responsible experience in fund accounting. Soil Erosion Control and Sedimentation certification by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Valid Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License.
Knowledge of the professional public management techniques involved in budgeting and resource management, and the ability to identify and implement new best practices. Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices, general ledger government accounting, account balancing and reconciliation, researching discrepancies, preparing financial reports, and special project accounting. Ability to acquire knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations, and provide customer service to landowners and outside agencies. Skill in assembling and analyzing data and preparing comprehensive and accurate reports.
Current hourly range starting at $28.55 - $37.22/hr (7-year progression) with benefits.
