The Community Development Agency (CDA) has a long history of innovation and leadership. We are recruiting two students willing to commit to a six-week internship. The internship will start in June and goes through July 24. Students should expect to work 37.5 hours each week. The position does not offer benefits.
Working under the lead direction of the Permit Services Supervisor and Building Official for the Community Development Agency in Building and Safety, the Building & Safety intern will gain experience in customer service and permit processing.
Duties may include:
- Provide information at the counter, by telephone and through correspondence in response to routine and general questions regarding building ordinances and codes and building permit application process and procedures.
- Direct the public to various County departments to obtain necessary information to apply for permits.
- Assist the public in completing building permit applications and other necessary forms.
- Work with applicants in the Permit Center to gain insight into ways to improve our Customer Service processes.
- Verify both workers compensation and valid contractor license information have been filed with the County.
- Perform a variety of office support duties including preparing, sorting, and cataloging files for image storage; writing routine reports; and maintaining a variety of records.
- Send emails and written letters to applicants to verify permit status and updates Building & Safety databases.
Our Highly Qualified Candidate has:
Working under the lead direction of the Permit Services Supervisor and Building Official for the Community Development Agency in Building and Safety, the Building & Safety intern will gain experience in customer service and permit processing. The ideal candidate will be a customer-focused, detail-oriented professional with some knowledge of building codes, construction practices, and/or permitting processes. Strong communication, organization, and computer skills are essential, along with the ability to balance accuracy with excellent customer service.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be:
- Enrolled in an academic or vocational curriculum at a college or university, OR
- Within one year of having graduated, OR
- A participant in a supervised program to meet licensure requirements of the State of California.
