FIRE (Fire Innovation Recruitment Education) Foundry: The FIRE Foundry is a career pathway program designed to support community members through career exploration in the fire service and strengthen competitiveness for future employment as firefighters or related careers in medicine, public safety and environmental conservation. Service - Teamwork - Operational Readiness - Professionalism

The FIRE Foundry is seeking a dynamic group of seven interns to be placed with specialized divisions to meet the needs of the department and community. Intern schedules and projects will vary depending on site location. Six of the internships will have the opportunity to build hands-on site-specific skills to continue to move forward in the careers in fire and EMS.  Hours may range from 20-40 hours every week. We expect the internship to start in June and end in December 2026. There will be one internship with FIRE Foundry that may last for one year.   

Site specific skill building may include community outreach, volunteer engagement, vegetation tracking, and more. These positions require the intern to have prior experience or education in the fields to be eligible.

FIRE Foundry

Our Highly Qualified Candidate will be a motivated individual with a strong interest in pursuing a career in the Fire Service and/or Emergency Medical Services. They will be committed to focusing on a specific area of interest and have experience or education in vegetation management or public safety e.g. fire, EMS or law enforcement. They will successfully shadow and assist leadership in completing tasks in a timely and effective manner. The ideal candidate will be able to perform tasks related to their specific internship and demonstrate a strong alignment with the mission and values of the FIRE Foundry.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

  • Work or education experience in vegetation management or public safety e.g. fire, EMS, or law enforcement.
  • Principles of teamwork, field safety, and effective communication in a professional work environment.

Ability to:

  • Work collaboratively as part of a team and follow instructions from supervisors.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, and the public.
  • Engage in ongoing education and training, including required courses, certifications, and professional development activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In accordance with state legal requirements, must be at least 18 years of age by the application filing deadline.
  • High school graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • Needs to have recently graduated or completed a certificate program in the last 12 months or take a course during this intern period.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Job classes require travel between various County and business-related locations. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver's license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County, including review of a recent DMV history. Applicants are required to furnish a recent DMV driving record when invited to an interview.   • Possession of a valid California Class C (Basic) driver’s license and a satisfactory driving history as obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles is required.
