About The Position

The Program Coordinator (Fixed Term) works within the Communicable Disease & Public Health Preparedness Units within the Public Health Division in the Health and Human Services Department. The Program Coordinator assists in coordinating activities to strengthen vaccine delivery systems and public health emergency preparedness. Key responsibilities include coordinating vaccine procurement, storage, and distribution; scheduling and staffing vaccination clinics and mobile teams; and overseeing logistical operations, including site setup, breakdown, and vaccine inventory management. The position also supports communication with schools, community partners, and vaccination providers, ensures accurate data entry and vaccine tracking, and serves as the onsite administrative lead during clinics to allow clinical staff to focus on patient care. Additionally, the Program Coordinator assists in planning and implementing response operations for outbreaks, seasonal surges, and public health emergencies, working closely with internal divisions, healthcare providers, schools, and community organizations to improve vaccine coverage, promote public health readiness, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

FIXED TERM

This is a fixed-term position and is budgeted through December 31, 2028. However, there may be opportunities for the hired individual during this time-period to move to a regular, ongoing position as other vacancies or promotional opportunities occur, or the position may be funded and convert to an ongoing position. Fixed-term employment ends when the position’s funding finishes, or the work is completed. Employees in these positions are exempted from the County’s policies regarding lay-off order and reduction-in-force rights.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

Bilingual skills in Spanish and English are highly desirable.

The successful candidate must possess bilingual skills and must demonstrate proficiency in both Spanish and English prior to appointment. A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to

ensure the candidates possess the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements.

About You

OUR HIGHLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATE

Our highly qualified candidate has at least 6 months of experience coordinating public health programs that include tracking deliverables for program metrics and supporting program operations and logistics. They have worked effectively within multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with medical providers, epidemiologists, paraprofessionals and community service providers. The ideal candidate is highly proficient with spreadsheets and other computer software, and is comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic environment where priorities and objectives can change rapidly. Experience in vaccine delivery operations, public health preparedness, and/or broad public health programs is strongly preferred. Bilingual skills in Spanish/English are highly desirable.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Principles of program planning, reporting and evaluation.
  • Policies and procedures related to assigned program.
  • Community resources for the provision of social services, education and related services.
  • Statistical data collection methods, analysis and techniques.
  • Computer applications related to the work.

Ability To

  • Plan and coordinate program; initiate, plan and coordinate program objectives.
  • Persuade and motivate people while demonstrating interpersonal and cultural sensitivity.
  • Integrate the services of volunteers with established department programs and activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, staff, volunteers, and community groups from a variety of social, cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Evaluate the skill and abilities of volunteers.
  • Develop and monitor program performance measurements.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

The equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree in a field closely related to the assigned program(s) and two years of experience providing community, educational, rehabilitative or counseling services including responsibility for planning and implementing programs and coordinating with community resources. Additional related experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.
