Provide dispatch services by analyzing, prioritizing, and relaying emergency calls for service, while maintaining radio contact with field personnel to ensure safety and efficient responses. Perform all radio communications for multiple EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement agencies, in accordance with local, state, and national standards. Receives, processes and dispatches all emergent and non-emergent calls for service from citizens for all public safety agencies in a professional manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Answering and processing both emergent and non-emergent phones calls from citizens, responders and other agencies. Interrogating callers to determine what services are needed and what actions need to be taken immediately such as life saving instructions. All must be done in a timely and professional manner.

Maintain appropriate documentation of all calls for service, self initiated unit responses and dispositions/results of calls, using a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and other software tools. Provide map verification of locations for jurisdiction confirmation. Ensure that the appropriate unit/personnel changes are updated for accurate record keeping.

Utilize Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to dispatch, monitor responders, gather information for responding personnel, like call history, patient information, description of the situation and scene safety, all in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain constant communication with responders and radio traffic for responder safety.

Operate the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Software, Records Management System and DMV-Department of Motor Vehicle interfaces to support law enforcement operations. Promptly and accurately provide identification of subjects, ascertain criminal history of detainees, and send hits for wanted subjects are additional functions performed. Assisting law enforcement officers in coordinating with other agencies in reference to wanted subjects. Entering and maintaining information regarding wanted subjects, stolen items, missing persons, etc. Maintaining security of extremely sensitive information.

Inform and educate the public, in person and through telephone conversations, as to the proper use of 911 and public safety emergency services. Redirecting them to appropriate non-emergent avenues to assist them. Participate in County or community sponsored events to further educate the citizens of Lexington County about our Public Safety Emergency Communication resources and abilities.

Maintain all credentials by continuing education. All certifications must stay current and the telecommunicator needs to continue to stay abreast of any updates in software or policies and procedures. Attends all mandatory training such as In-Service and shift meetings.

Minimum Education:

6 months to 1 year of advanced study or training beyond high school equivalency, with under and including 1 year experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.76 - $20.27 per hour
