What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legislative Specialist (Exempt) position at County of Hawai`i?
Edit and proofread legislative documents for editorial, stylistic, and grammatical accuracy and consistency. Work closely with elected officials and staff to clarify legislative intent, refine language, and support policy development. Review and proof revisions to the County Code and County Charter for conformity with enacted ordinances and amendments. Conduct in-depth research on legislative, policy, and administrative topics using a variety of sources. Perform research and other duties as requested by the County Clerk, Deputy County Clerk, or LRB supervisor.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in public or business administration, journalism, communications, political science, library science, history, philosophy, economics, or a related field. - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues to different audiences.
- Strong research and information literacy skills, including the ability to locate, evaluate, and synthesize information from multiple sources.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional office environment (experience in government or policy-related settings is desirable but not required).
- Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook) and general office equipment.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, sound judgement, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments.
