What are the responsibilities and job description for the RADIO TECHNICIAN position at County of Greenville - EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT...?
Performs various system design, programming and other computer-related activities such as systems operations, determining and solving problems, training and assisting users, and maintaining and installing hardware and software including radio and all other communication equipment. Assists in the day-to-day management of the County's interoperable Palmetto 800 radio system and backup systems. including the countywide radio template; assists in evaluating purchase requests for new radios and accessories; assists in maintaining an inventory of all equipment and all radio IDs are accounted for on the system; and assists in maintaining spare radios and equipment to ensure minimal downtime. Assists in providing technical support in the field to include but not limited to; radios, satellite phones, communications trailer, plum cases, Incident Command Post, computers, satrunner, and podrunner. Provides guidance, advice, and recommendations regarding changes and updates in the communications plan for the county. Attends courses, conferences and exercises to stay knowledgeable of new communications technology applicable to governmental operations and public safety. Conducts operability checks and inspections for radio and computer systems, and coordinates activities with County staff, South Carolina Emergency Management, and the Department of Health and Environmental Control. Assists in ensuring all agencies in the County are trained and coordinated to communicate in times of disaster and high call volumes. Obtains training and certifications on software packages and equipment purchased by the County. Scheduled to be on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week on a rotating basis to provide after-hours support to departments that work beyond normal business hours of Monday-Friday 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. Performs other related duties as required. Associate degree in Electronic Communications Technology, Public Safety, or related field required; supplemented by three years of experience in emergency communications or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver's License. COM-Technician Level FEMA Certification preferred. Palmetto 800 System Keys Authorization to program radios preferred.
