Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounts Payable Specialist to join our finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, and maintaining positive relationships with vendors. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills and experience with various accounting software.
Candidate should have associate degree in accounting or business and some experience in an accounting or fiscal office environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable transactions including invoice verification and payment processing.
- Maintain accurate records of all accounts payable activities and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Stay updated on governmental accounting regulations and best practices.
- Reconcile credit card and procurement card purchases and invoices to statements for payments
- Counts cash from various departments and balances to documentation
- Obtain W-9s from vendors and other information as needed for setting up vendors. Prepares and distributes 1099s.
- Assist in month-end closing activities related to accounts payable.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth financial operations.
- Prepare reports on accounts payable activities as needed.
- Key invoices into computer by vendor code number, code of department; liquidates each purchase order; check accuracy of entry; maintain files of invoices and related records.
- Utilize financial software and accounting systems to manage data efficiently
Skills
- Proficiency in accounting principles and practices.
- Working knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies and practices to follow in an accounts payable function.
- Considerable knowledge of the application and use of modern office technology including spreadsheets, data bases and specialized financial software.
- Knowledge of paraprofessional principles of accounting and public finance.
- Customer service excellence and collaborative conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills for effective vendor interactions.
