SUMMARY
This position performs skilled and technical work in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs in the Public Works Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manufactures and assembles signs in the sign shop.
- Makes and installs address markers as requested.
- The incumbent performs work involving a variety of specialized tasks, including but not limited to the operation, installation, and maintenance of traffic signs and street names.
- Monitors and upgrades existing traffic signs.
- May be required to operate equipment used such as backhoe, tractor, front-end loader, dump truck, post pounder, sledgehammer, hand tools, snowplow, sander, and other mechanized equipment.
- Operates a motor vehicle in all types of weather conditions.
- May also perform duties such as snowplow and sand operations as needed
- Respond to complaints from the public regarding road and sign conditions. Ensure that problems are corrected in a timely and effective manner.
- Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment as needed. Cleans equipment and shop area as necessary.
- May assist in other areas of Road and Bridge.
- Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents, uses all required safety equipment.
- Undertakes flagging duties as needed.
- Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS
High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid State of Colorado Class “B” driver’s license with the ability to obtain a Class “A” license with Tanker endorsement.
- Acceptable motor vehicle record
- Computer software skills and graphic design experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION
Work is generally scheduled Monday through Thursday and involves on-call duty that requires working some weekends and holidays. The incumbent is exposed to the following environmental factors: year-round outdoor weather conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; work in or near moving traffic, fumes, or airborne particles; vibration.
