ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

REQUIRED JOB COMPETENCIES

• Proficient skill in criminal and non-criminal investigations, and report writing.
• Working knowledge of applicable state statutes, county ordinances, and agency policies, rules, and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to function effectively and prioritize functions under stressful conditions.

• Ability to explain and enforce federal, state, and county laws clearly and courteously.
• The employee must have the ability to testify in court as a credible and trustworthy witness.

PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms.
• Work has standard vision requirements.
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
• Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
• Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities.
• Nearly constant time pressure, frequent repetitive activities, frequent work under distractions, frequent high/low temperatures, frequent high stress situations, frequent improper illumination, minimal intense/continuous noise, may be exposed to free flowing blood and communicable disease.
• May require communicating with persons who are hostile, aggressive, abusive or violent, posing threatening conditions.

Experience

• Must pass written, oral and physical examinations as required by the Sheriff.
• Must pass firearms qualifications in order to perform transport duties.
• Must meet requirements of Dodge County Driver Qualification Policy.
• Must be 18 years of age and have valid, Wisconsin motor vehicle operator’s license without a restriction affecting driving ability. Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

• Two (2) year associate degree from Wisconsin vocational, technical, and adult education district or its accredited equivalent from another state or minimum of 60 fully accredited college level credits
• Prior experience as a law enforcement officer, correctional officer, or transport officer.
