Vector Control Technician

Performs intermediate semiskilled work locating and eradicating mosquitos, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Vector Control Supervisor.

• Preparing truck for nightly pesticide spray.
• Operates fogging equipment on designated routes; applies approved pesticides and larvicides in an effort to minimize infestation.
• Conducts field survey work, analyzes data and maps high-density larvae and adult treatment sites.
• Performing equipment maintenance.

Thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures, hazards, tools and equipment used in or associated with dispensing pesticides for controlling carriers of vector born diseases; general knowledge of applicable public health laws, ordinances and regulations; general knowledge of the biology and control of mosquitoes; skill in the application of pesticides; ability to operate all necessary equipment and machinery; ability to evaluate and solve public health pest problems; ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and others.High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in vector control, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
