What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sanitation Equipment Operator position at County of Dare?
Performs intermediate semi-skilled work operating solid waste collection and transport equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned supervisor.
- Operates transfer truck and heavy construction equipment to transport recyclable materials, refuse and other materials to landfill, collection sites or other disposal locations.
- Performs large item removal/relocation as necessary.
- Assists with storm and natural disaster cleanup.
- Performs other assigned duties.
- General knowledge of the operation and servicing of automotive equipment.
- General knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation.
- General knowledge of safe driving practices and occupational hazards of work.
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
- Ability to detect signs of mechanical failure of the automotive and packing equipment.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and the general public
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One to three (1-3) years of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid North Carolina driver's license.
- Successful completion of In-House CDL Certification required within 6 months of hire.
