What are the responsibilities and job description for the Permit Specialist - Nags Head position at County of Dare?
Performs intermediate administrative support work providing office/technical support for the issuance of building permits and other permits, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Planning Director.
- Reviews applications and construction plans for preliminary, routine code compliance; issues building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and gas permits; collects fees and issues receipts.
- Coordinates inspections and appointments for inspectors and administrative personnel; coordinates occupancy inspections with other agencies.
- Prepares and maintains building permit-related files and records.
- Responds to complaints and inquiries regarding property conditions and zoning violations.
- Advises the public, property owners, architects, engineers, developers and others regarding County planning and development policies, procedures, and standards.
- Performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties.
- Performs other assigned duties.
- Thorough knowledge of permit processing procedures and methods.
- Thorough knowledge of building trades methods and terminology.
- Some knowledge of standard office methods and procedures.
- Ability to operate standard office, personal computer, and related equipment.
- Ability to perform detailed record work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, and the public.
- High school diploma or equivalent or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid driver’s license.
