What are the responsibilities and job description for the Children's Librarian - Kill Devil Hills position at County of Dare?
Performs intermediate skilled human support work overseeing library programs and services for children and families, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Librarian. Leadership is provided to volunteers.
- Plans, organizes, directs, promotes, and leads public library programs and services for children and families.
- Provides guidance to the library director and Branch Manager on the wants and needs of child patrons and parents, to enhance the library's collection.
- Makes recommendations to parents and students of material that may be of interest, and appropriate for the reader's comprehension level.
- Provides technology assistance, introducing parents and students to technological resources available at the library.
- Responds to customer inquiries and aids with checking in/checking out materials, locating materials.
- Performs other assigned duties.
- Thorough knowledge of professional library principles, procedures, materials, and practices.
- Thorough knowledge of reader interest levels.
- Thorough knowledge of research methods, techniques, and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of children’s materials and resources.
- Ability to evaluate children’s collection and services and to recommend and implement new systems or improvements.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and library patrons.
- Master’s degree or equivalent.
- Three to five (3-5) years of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid driver’s license.
