Administrative Analysts work under close supervision and receive instructions on the priority of projects, the nature and purpose of studies, and work methods and techniques required to complete assignments. Study findings and recommendations are carefully reviewed.

The current recruitment is to fill one (1) vacancy in the Employment & Human Services Department, though the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies throughout Contra Costa County as they arise.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.


Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business administration or public administration, or a closely related field.

Substitution for Education: Successful completion of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university which included at least one three semester unit or four and one-half quarter unit course transferable to accredited four year college or university in each of the following areas (1) English composition; (2) business or public administration, political science or government; (3) mathematics or statistics; and (4) psychology or behavioral science; and two years full time experience or its equivalent in an administrative or staff capacity performing administrative, personnel or budgetary analysis which included the research, analysis and preparation of written reports; or an acceptable combination of qualifying experience beyond the two-year minimum education requirement may be substituted for the baccalaureate degree.

Substitution for Academic Major: One (1) year full time or its equivalent experience in an administrative or staff capacity performing administrative, personnel or budgetary analysis which included the research, analysis and preparation of written reports and recommendations, or possession of a Master's degree in business or public administration of a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required academic major.
  1. Application Filing and Evaluation: All applicants must apply online at www.cccounty.us/hr and submit the information as indicated on the job announcement and supplemental questionnaire by the final filing date. Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.

  2. Online Assessment: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in the Administrative Analyst Core Multiple-Choice Assessment. The multiple-choice assessment will be administered via a web-based platform and will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to Administrative Analyst. These may include but are not limited to: analyzing & interpreting data, critical thinking, fact-finding, mathematical facility, reading comprehension, attention to detail, and writing. (Weight 100%).
    • The Administrative Analyst Multiple Choice Assessment is tentatively scheduled to take place via computer (remotely): August 20, 2026, through August 24, 2026.

  3.  Final Selection Interviews: These will be scheduled by the department once the eligible list is established.
Candidates are not permitted to retake the same assessment within a six (6) month period. If you apply for another recruitment that uses this exam and the test is scheduled within six (6) months of the date you took the test this time, you will not have the option to re-take the exam.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

 CONVICTION HISTORY
After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
