BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Work under the direction of and assist mechanics in the repair and maintenance of County equipment. Perform other related duties
as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist mechanics with services; repair, rebuild, lubricate, weld, fuel, grease, adjust and replace parts on trucks and tractors, two and four-cycle engines, small diesel engines, ground and landscaping power equipment, and other equipment.
- Assist mechanics with maintaining a parts inventory; determine the need for and requisition parts and supplies; manufacture parts not available from suppliers by welding or otherwise modifying existing parts as necessary.
- Assist mechanics to disassemble, repair, grind, or replace worn parts.
- Assist mechanics with fitting new parts; adjust engines, oil, water and fuel pumps, carburetors and fuel injectors, governors, starting motors, clutches, transmissions, differentials, brakes, and steering gear.
- Maintain and repair shop equipment and tools.
- Keep accurate, detailed records of repairs and service.
- Make oral and written reports and formulate work orders.
- Perform general cleaning duties in the shop to include organization of tools and toolboxes, cleaning fluid spills and leaks, and cleaning floors, workbenches, tables etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Two (2) years experience performing all types and levels of repairs on at least some of the following equipment classes: heavy trucks, small engines/self-powered equipment, automotive/light duty vehicles and heavy equipment.
Training Required:
- None.
Certificates/Licenses Required:
- Obtain a Commercial Class A State of Minnesota driver's license with and no restrictions within six (6) months of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Required at Entry:
- Knowledge of basic mechanical repairs
- Knowledge of basic math
- Ability to safely operate equipment that is in need of repair.
- Ability to read and write English
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Salary : $52,416 - $62,400
