What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal - Full-time - Public Defender's Office position at County of Armstrong?
This is a full-time position at $18.50 per hour, M - F, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:
Under general supervision of the Chief Public Defender, the purpose of the position is to conduct research in the preparation of cases within the Public Defender’s office. Employees in this classification perform research and analysis work. Position is responsible for conducting legal research and interviews, assisting in preparing cases before trial, preparing motions and orders and performing administrative office support work. Performs related work as directed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB, include but are not limited to:
Assists in conducting legal research as requested by attorneys; drafting of initial documents and filings as requested by attorneys; assists in preparing cases and please; prepares motions and orders; performs administrative office support within the department on an as-needed basis; etc.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Associate degree or paralegal degree or equivalent is preferred, but not required, plus secretarial, legal and computer training.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
At least one year working experience in law office, law enforcement or court setting, with preference given to criminal law experience, or any acceptable combination of training and experience.
