The Cafeteria Cook is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality, nutritious, and appealing meals for students, faculty, staff, and guests. This position works as part of the food service team to ensure meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and according to established menus and standards. The overall goal is to provide students, faculty, staff, and guests with safe, high-quality, well prepared meals while contributing to a clean, welcoming, and efficient cafeteria operation. Requirements/Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
*Prepare breakfast, lunch and/or dinner menu items according to recipes and established standards.
*Prepare meats, vegetables, starches, sauces, soups, salads, baked goods, and other food items as assigned
*Follow standardized recipes, portion sizes, and presentation guidelines.
*Maintain proper food temperatures and follow all food safety and sanitation procedures.
*Assist with food preparation, serving, restocking, and maintaining the cafeteria.
*Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and properly.
*Maintain clean and organized work areas, equipment, utensils, and storage areas.
*Properly store, label, date, and rotate food products.
*Monitor food quality and notify the supervisor of shortages or concerns.
*Assist with receiving and putting away food and supplies as needed.
*Minimize food waste while maintaining quality and proper portion control.
*Work cooperatively with other cafeteria and food service staff.
*Provide friendly and professional service to students, faculty, staff, and guests.
*Perform opening, closing, cleaning, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
*Previous food service or cooking experience preferred.
*Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and food safety practices.
*Ability to follow recipes and written instructions.
*Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
*Good communication and customer service skills.
*Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move food supplies and equipment as required.
Work Environment:
This position works primarily in a commercial cafeteria and kitchen environment. The employee may be exposed to heat, cold, steam, noise, wet floors, and commercial kitchen equipment. Proper safety and sanitation procedures must be followed at all times.
Salary : $18 - $20
