What are the responsibilities and job description for the Career Navigator position at County Corp?
County Corp is a private, non-profit affordable housing provider for the residents of the Greater Miami Valley region. Our mission is to provide affordable housing and economic opportunities. While we are a relatively small organization, we are mighty in the positive impact we have on the clients and communities we serve. We co-locate with the Montgomery County Land Bank and the Homeownership Center of Greater Dayton.
In addition to providing housing, home repair, new construction, and rehab services to our clients, we also manage a U.S. Department of Labor Grant called YouthBuild. YouthBuild is a college and career preparation program that focuses on opportunity youth ages 16 - 22. Utilizing classroom and hands-on experience, eligible youth are provided opportunities to enter career pathways such as construction, manufacturing, and healthcare.
We are looking for a Career Navigator.
Essential Functions
· Conducts an orientation/interview with each YB Participant to identify his/her post-secondary goals. .
· Through the use of “Mentoring” supports, the Career Navigator will monitor, support, and provide feedback to improve the work behaviors/professionalism of YB Participants during their Workforce Experience (WEX) activities. These mentoring supports may occur within the school or out in the community (paid, or unpaid) and are critical to ensuring good relationships with community partners.
· Referrals to the program’s Family Advocate or Senior Life Coach shall be made if the Career Navigator identifies potential barriers (food insecurity, transportation issues, homelessness, mental health, or court issues, etc.) that made negatively impact the YB Participant’s ability to fully participate in YB activities.
· Assist all upcoming graduates in securing post-secondary goals, including but not limited to employment, college, military, and trade school apprenticeship. This includes assistance in completing applications, FAFSA and college tours, and ASVAB testing for the military, etc.
· Through the use of “Mentoring” supports, the Career Navigator will monitor, support, and provide feedback to improve the work behaviors/professionalism of graduates during their first year of post-secondary placement. These mentoring supports are designed to ensure the graduate is able to successfully retain placement. These supports include developing a positive relationship with front line supervisors so that together, each graduate is better supported in retaining placement.
· Participate in quarterly Workforce Advisory Committee (WAC) meetings for each pathway with special emphasis on 1) Creating Workforce Experience (WEX) opportunities for YB Participants, and 2) Developing a pipeline to employment for our graduates with these WAC partners.
· Builds relationships and contacts with community partners regarding potential post-secondary placements, including colleges, training centers, military recruiters, employers, the local Ohio Means Job – One Stop Center and any WIOA partner agencies.
· Posts relevant job listings from local and surrounding areas. Provide information on career fairs, workshops, trainings, or related community activities.
· Maintain all relevant YB Participant records, data and reports, especially all documentation required for completion of each YB Participant’s Career Portfolio and 4 quarters of placement data.
· Provide required performance reports, participate in relevant meetings, workshops and/or committees.
Performance Outcomes
· Completes the paperwork for each YB graduate to monitor postsecondary placement and retention for one year post-graduation.
· Completes a Career Portfolio for each YB graduate which includes, at a minimum, a cover letter, a resume, copies of industry credentials (if applicable), and letters of recommendation.
· Monitors WEX placements and ensures the YB Participants understand the relationship between the work world and the skills and concepts learned in CTE. This includes meeting with WEX supervisors, YB Participants and CTE teachers, and ensuring a positive experience for everyone, including maintaining a strong and positive reputation of the school in the community.
· Participates in quarterly Workforce Advisory Committee of local business partners that express an interest in providing Workforce Experience opportunities for our YB Participants and, more importantly, hiring our graduates (i.e., create a pipeline).

· Minimum – High School Diploma.
· Preferred – Experience working in a not for profit setting
· Preferred – Experience working with federal grants
· Preferred – Experience as Youth Counselor, Coach, or Mentor
· Valid Driver’s License Required
