What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Camp Counselor position at COUNTRYSIDE YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The junior camp counselor is responsible for managing the day-to-day safety and well-being of the campers in their care. Their primary job will be to guide the camp experience of the (up to) 10 campers while helping them develop mind, body and spirit as outlined in the YMCA mission statement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Help campers have fun, learn, explore, and make new friends

Assist Senior Counselors in leading a group of campers in the Y camp program

Assist in implementing the daily camp program activities

Assist in guiding campers and helping them adjust and grow in relationships with one another

Support a safe and healthy environment for all campers

Interact with the campers at all times, participating in activities alongside the campers

Participate in all camp-wide activities and special events

Participate in staff trainings, meetings, and conferences as required
Position is a split shift 6:45 AM to 9:15AM 3:45 PM to 5:45 PM Monday- Friday
Qualifications:EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum 16 years of age, CPR and First Aid Certifications required.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Be available to work from the week before camp begins for training to the end of the final week of the season

Ability to work well with others; take guidance and direction; be enthusiastic, patient, and flexible

Skilled in teaching a variety of crafts, songs, stories, games, sports, aquatics and related camp activities

Able to effectively communicate with children and parents

Understand and be committed to working with diverse population and to Y character development
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time in a variety of settings and weather conditions

Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children

Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds

Must have visual acuity to observe all children
