Countryside Health Care of Milford is seeking a dedicated Director of Food Services to join our team.

Qualifications: 

  • Able to read, write, speak and understand the English language

  • Must have completed an approved food safety and management course

  • Must be ServSafe certified

  • Must have at least two years of relevant experience in a nursing facility

  • Must be knowledgeable of food service practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing food services functions in nursing facilities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in fast-paced and multiple task environment

  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implement, evaluating, and directing the Food Services Department, its programs and activities

  • Coordinate food services and activities with other related departments such as nursing, environmental, activity, and social services

  • Assist in developing and maintaining written food services policies and procedures

  • Assist the food services staff in the development and use of departmental policies, procedures, equipment, supplies, etc.

  • Perform administrative duties such as completing necessary forms, reports, evaluations, studies, etc.

  • Inspect food storage rooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc. for upkeep and supply control

  • Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.

  • Review and assist in developing a plan of correction for food service deficiencies noted during survey inspections

  • Process diet changes and new diets as received from nursing services

  • Review departmental complaints and grievances from personnel and make written reports to the Dietitian and/or Administrator of actions taken. Follow facility’s established procedures

  • Interview residents or family members, as necessary, to obtain diet history

  • Assist in developing methods for determining quality and quantity of food served

  • Ensure that menus are maintained and filed in accordance with established policies and procedures

  • Maintain a reference library of written material, laws, diet manuals, food codes, etc. necessary for complying with current standards and regulations and that will provide assistance in maintaining quality food service

  • Visit residents periodically to evaluate the quality of meals served, likes, and dislikes

  • Assist in planning regular and special diet menus as prescribed by the attending physician

  • Review therapeutic and regular diet plans and menus to assure they are in compliance with physician orders

  • Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of food services personnel

  • Schedule department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedule), personnel, work assignments, etc.

  • Counsel/discipline food service personnel as request or as necessary

  • Conduct departmental performance evaluations in accordance with the facility’s policies.

  • Report accident, injuries, or exposures in accordance with the facility’s policy

  • Ensure food service personnel are following established safety regulations, maintaining a clean and sanitary work area, and are following established policies and procedures

  • Place orders for equipment and supplies as needed

  • Ensure that stock levels of staple/non-staple food, supplies, equipment, etc. are maintained at adequate levels at all times

  • Assist in developing and monitoring adequate inventory control procedures.

  • Ensure that only trained and authorized personnel operate the department equipment and are doing so in a safe manner

  • Assist in developing and implementing procedures which ensure that food service supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste

  • Ensure that containers of hazardous chemicals used in the department are properly labeled and stored

  • Be prepared to handle emergencies as they occur.

  • Attend meetings as needed

  • Other duties as assigned.
