Elementary Physical Education Classroom Teacher
Objectives of this role
- Facilitate day-to-day management and instruction of students as directed by the Administrator and the Academy Board.
Responsibilities
Curriculum
- Articulate a plan of instruction in accordance with the MDE benchmarking
- Utilize food, agriculture, renewable resources, and environmental (FARE) themes
- Integrate technology throughout the curriculum
- Utilize Outcome-based assessment, based on grade level groupings and MDE
- Develop and use multiple assessment strategies to evaluate student learning
Classroom Management
- Create a classroom curriculum that facilitates instruction
- Establish procedures and classroom rules
- Communicate oral and written administrative action to parents and Administrator
- Provide a warm and inviting atmosphere
- Record attendance, lunch, and grades for all students
- Promote a clean and safe working environment
- Implement and follow individual student behavior plans
Communication
- Communicate expectations to students
- Evaluate and communicate student progress to parents on a regular basis
- Communicate volunteer needs to parents
- Make contributions to Academy newsletters
Leadership
- Provide guidance and direction to Paraprofessionals on a regular basis
- Evaluate Paraprofessional performance and assist in an “action plan” for improvement if needed
- Actively pursue the vision of the Academy newsletters
Total Learning Environment
- Carry out the policies adopted by the Academy Board as interpreted by the Administrator(examples of Board policies include:dress code policy and code of conduct policy)
- Evaluate Paraprofessional performance and assist in an “action plan” for improvement if needed
- Monitor the safety of all children
- Monitor the appropriateness of computer use in accordance with an acceptable use policy
- Perform all other duties assigned the Administrator and/or Academy Board
Required skills and qualifications
- MI Teacher Certification, Out of State Teaching Certification, or the ability to obtain a Teaching Permit
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Ability to work with urban and rural youth in a diverse population
- Experience with developing and implementing thematic interdisciplinary curriculum
- Experience with hands-on/minds-on teaching
- Ability to work as a team member
- Understand how information technology can be integrated into curricula
- Must pass State and Federal criminal background check
Preferred skills and qualifications
- Certification in teaching
- Experience working with students
- Effective communication skills with adults and children
- Understanding of basic principles of childhood development
- Familiarity with educational software and willingness to learn new systems
- Certification in first aid and CPR
