Job Summary:

As a part of the leadership team, this individual will be treated as such and will be responsible for leading, by example, teaching, training, and educating the team along with being the face of the program. The Manager is also responsible for promoting the lounge, menu planning, maintaining standards, assists servers on the floor during peak periods and manages property liquor inventories and controls. Strives to ensure guest and employee satisfaction while maintaining the operating budget. Accountable for enforcing all legal obligations professionally and consistently.


This position reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for the following:

  • Implements agreed upon beverage policy and procedures throughout the property.
  • Manages in compliance with all local, state and Federal beverage and liquor laws.
  • Understands beverage control including days on hand, perpetual inventory, bar pars, portion control, costs controls, beverage potentials, mix of sales analysis for beverage, issue & returns, food standards, and period end inventory.
  • Monitors adherence to all liquor control policies and procedures.
  • Attends pre- and post-convention meetings as needed to understand group needs
  • Comprehends budgets, operating statements, and payroll progress reports to financially manage the department.
  • Manages the department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Manages to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Ensures compliance with all Bar/Lounge policies, standards and procedures.
  • Manages inventories according to budget and business levels.
  • Develops menus and promotions as necessary.
  • Trains staff on liquor control policies and procedures.
  • Manages staffing levels to ensure that guest service, operational needs and financial objectives are met.
  • Ensures employees understand expectations and parameters.
  • Communicates critical information to the Bar/Lounge staff regarding each event.
  • Provides excellent customer service.
  • Interacts with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels.
  • Responds effectively to guest problems and complaints.
  • Empowers employees to provide excellent customer service.
  • Emphasizes guest satisfaction during all departmental meetings and focuses on continuous improvement.
  • Provides feedback to individuals in an effort to improve service performance.
  • Reviews comment cards and guest satisfaction results with employees.


Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a bar manager or similar role, with a strong mixology and beverage management background.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team to deliver exceptional service.
  • Thorough knowledge of beverage trends, cocktail recipes, and bar techniques, with a passion for creativity and innovation.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate responsibilities effectively.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused under pressure.
  • Proficient in cash handling and reconciliation, including managing cash bank and POS systems.
  • Proficiency in Micros and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Certification in responsible alcohol service (e.g., TIPS, SERV Safe) preferred.


Special Requirements:


  • Prompt and regular attendance - the hotel operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
  • Department schedules must accommodate fluctuating business demands and associates may be asked to work shifts other than those they prefer or normally work, and overtime as required
  • Comply with hotel and/or department uniform and professional behavior and appearance standards
  • Carry out all reasonable requests by team leaders and managers and act as a team player with all levels of staff
  • Review and approve electronic timecard weekly to ensure accuracy

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Requirements

  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in English language.
  • Ability to supervise many employees in high volume environment.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to adapt to change, new situations, changes in staffing and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledgeable of basic sanitation.
  • Knowledgeable of computer operations and ordering procedures.
  • Outgoing, sociable and well spoken.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to absorb large amounts of information quickly: service procedures, menus, and dining room floor plan, register operation.
  • Dedication and commitment to excellent customer service


Education & Experience:


  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Must be TIPS, CARE (or equivalent) certified, or be willing to become certified
  • Ability to input and access information in the property management system/point of sales system
  • MICROS experience is a plus


Licenses:


  • Food Handlers License – KCMO within 30 days of hire
  • Liquor License – KCMO within 30 days of hire
  • Must be willing to complete drug screen and background check in accordance with federal and state laws
