As our client strategist, you’ll develop new business opportunities and nurture existing ones at our agency, particularly with retail clients. You’ll be a go-getter. A thinker. A leader. Our client strategist provides “big picture” oversight of client projects and initiatives while looking for ways to maximize client relationships. They gather data and insights, analyze problems and opportunities, develop recommendations and plans, and mobilize resources to drive strategic growth.
Job duties and responsibilities:
- Serve as the strategic lead in client relationships, specifically with multi-location retail clients
- Inspire your clients so much that they depend on you as a marketing partner
- Look at opportunities with a sales mentality, constantly looking for ways to cross-sell, up-sell, and proactively pitch ideas to clients, particularly in fast-moving retail environments
- Conduct research to develop a deep understanding of clients’ offerings, market opportunities, competitive set, and retail landscape
- Attend or lead client meetings to provide guidance and facilitate discussions and information-gathering
- Write briefs for projects to ensure they are thorough and nothing is lacking that would impact successful execution
- Attend or lead internal kick-off meetings with the team to ensure there is alignment and understanding
- Review all work to make sure it is on strategy and aligned with retail customer behavior and expectations before it goes to the client
- Attend and/or facilitate client presentations
- Proactively communicate and network with clients to nurture relationships, with an understanding of the pace and demands of retail businesses
- Stay informed of contracts, estimates, invoices, and projections and keep the VP of Strategy & Growth informed of any issues or discrepancies
- Work to resolve client issues as the first level of elevation on the account and keep the VP of Strategy & Growth informed of these resolutions or recommendations
- Keep the leadership team and project team informed about what is going on with the client
- Other duties as assigned
Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in marketing, communications, or a related field
Work experience: 5–7 years of related experience, ideally in an agency environment; experience working with multi-location retail clients or within the retail industry is strongly preferred.
Required skills or competencies
- Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to ask appropriate questions, listen effectively, and lead discussions with all levels of management and leadership
- Ability to build strong relationships
- Deep understanding of marketing channels and how to develop effective strategies across them
- Experience working with retail brands, especially multi-location retail businesses, with a strong understanding of retail customer behavior, store-level realities, and fast-moving business demands
- Ability to develop strategies that reflect the needs of retail environments, including promotional calendars, seasonal campaigns, local execution, and customer acquisition and retention
- Presentation skills
- Strong business acumen
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to analyze and resolve issues
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to recognize business development opportunities and proactively make recommendations
